Multi-Language Text Blocks

by C.W. Holeman III

The Multi Language tool handles the delivery of correct localized content to users based on their preferred language.

During the module creation process you can utilize the Multi Language Tool for text blocks. The process to add a text block to a module remains the same. The Admin workflow of adding a text block to a module is the same as for a mono-lingual site. When creating a module, the Admin will select the “Text Block” pill, and enter text into the block as desired. If multiple languages have been enabled on their LMS, once the Admin starts adding text, the Multi Language Tool globe icon will appear on the upper right side of the text block.

When the Admin clicks on the globe icon, the familiar Multi Language Tool pops up. There, an Admin will see that the initial text appears under English (en), as well as all other languages. Admins can input translated text for all the active languages in their system. If no edits or changes are made to the text for other languages, the English (en) text becomes the default text.

Admins can continue to make formatting changes to the text block on both the module details page, as well as within the Multi Language tool. The action of highlighting text to see the text editor to change the format applies to both the module details page, and within the Multi Language Tool.

The text for each language can be formatted independently:

To save changes to text within the Multi Language tool, an Admin must click the Save button on the bottom right of the Multi Language tool. Clicking outside of the Multi Language will close the modal and changes will not be saved.

Once changes are saved, the Multi Language tool will collapse and the Admin is taken back to the module details page where they will see the initial text that was created in the text block. To see the text for other languages, they simply need to open up the Multi Language Tool via the globe icon.
